Types of Clinic Trips

Medical clinic - ensenada, MX

Our general medical clinic is our most common type of clinic and occurs every month. One or two providers usually accompany us during these trips. Volunteers can perform the usual duties of registration, vitals, shadowing/scribing, etc.

dental clinic - ensenada, mx

UCSD Flying Sams Dental started in a single room with a single chair. Since 2016, we have been operating with four chairs and a new building entirely dedicated to dental operations. In our clinic, we have all of the instruments, supplies, and equipment to practice general dentistry. The procedures that usually take place in our clinic are extractions, composite and amalgam fillings, Scaling and Root planing, as well as prophylaxis. Our clinics not only provide dental care, but also public health advice, medical, and pharmaceuticals, and we’re even developing a community garden. Other programs that dental works closely with can also have the opportunity to volunteer in our clinics.

orphanage - casa hogar/rancho de los ninos

We visit two orphanages throughout the year. Rancho de Los Ninos orphanage is located in Valle de Guadalupe. Casa Hogar Manantial de Esperanza is located in Rosarito orphanage. We visited them two to three times a year. We provided them with medical and public health services. We hope to start a psychological service program for both orphanages in addition to optometry services.

women’s clinic

We provide medical services to women in the community of Chapultepec. During women’s clinics, we focus on women's health. Our public health team prepares presentations and gift packages for the patients. Aside from the medical consultations and presentations, we refer patients to outside clinics for mammograms and pap smears. We have this type of clinic two times a year.

2022 nursing home - Casa Hogar Manantial de Esperanza

We provide medical services to El Buen Samaritano nursing home. This nursing home is located in Vicente Guerrero. The nursing home trip is a two-day trip in which we provide services to the residents, staff of the nursing home, and community members. Optometry - ensenada, MX

Our optometry clinic assesses the patients’ vision and occurs every 6 months. We usually go down to our Ensenada site with an optometrist and a small group of optometry students who perform eye examinations. We provide free glasses for the community that they are able to pick up at our future clinics.
