Membership

1

Step 1 - Understand the different forms of membership and register by paying the annual fee

In order to become a member, you must register by completing the following form: Member Registration and pay a $40 annual active membership fee. The fee can be paid via Venmo using the button below, with cash, or online on this website (For more information, please read our “Shop” section).

You do not have to be a paid member to attend our events (socials, GBMS, fundraisers, etc.), but you must be a paid member to attend clinic trips.

Types of membership:

Active Member - Register, pay annual membership fee, accumulate points

Committee Member - Register, pay annual membership fee, requires separate application

Step 2 - Accumulate clinic points

Attend our meetings and participate in our socials! Your attendance will be tracked to measure your engagement level (through clinic points). The more clinic points, the more likely you will be selected for clinic trips! (5 clinic points will be subtracted every time you are selected for a clinic to be fair to those that join later in the year)

If you have more questions about your points, please send us an email at: Flying Sams Email

Step 3 - Subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated

The easiest way to accumulate clinic points is by attending Flying Sams events! Stay updated with what events are coming up by subscribing to our newsletter. We also send out clinic trip sign-ups and various other announcements and opportunities through our newsletter.

Step 4 - accumulate clinic points by attending GBms, fundraisers, socials, etc.

GBMs are General Body Meetings that all members can attend to be updated on what is going on in Flying Sams. We review clinic/dental trip updates, specialty clinic updates, and upcoming public health/fundraising/social events for our members.

We will usually have a guest speaker or an activity after the general club announcements. We also often have fundraiser socials after GBM at TapEx or YogurtWorld for our members and officers to socialize while supporting the org!

Attending a GBM will give 1 clinic point to all members who sign in at the beginning and an additional clinic point can be received if you bring a friend.

Upcoming Fall 2022 GBM dates: GBM1 (October 4th 7-9pm)

Once selected for your prioritized trip, it is your responsibility to respond to the Clinic Coordinator in the time frame indicated stating your ability to attend both the trip and the predesignated pre-clinic meeting. If your availability has changed and you are no longer able to attend, please notify the Clinic Coordinator for your trip. Although we cannot guarantee you a spot on another trip during the quarter, you will be placed on an informal waitlist and may be chosen for another trip should another volunteer drop, or if more volunteers are needed.

If you are unable to make the pre-clinic meeting, you must attempt to reschedule the meeting with the Clinic Coordinator at another time. The pre-clinic meeting is mandatory and crucial for your attendance prior to the trip, as you will learn all the vital information about the trip, as well as your car assignments, volunteer roles, and a skills workshop pertaining to those roles.

If you are unable to make your assigned clinic trip, please notify the Clinic Coordinator as soon as possible. In order to avoid a penalty, you must notify the Clinic Coordinator 72 hours prior to your trip. This time period allows the opportunity for arrangements to be made to find a replacement to fill your spot. The penalties for dropping your trip within the 72-hour period will include not being selected for any more trips in that quarter and/or not being selected as an active or committee member in the following quarter. In the case of emergencies, such as health issues or family emergencies, the outcome will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
